Pakistan's PPP Senator Sherry Rehman criticized India's approval of a 260-megawatt hydropower project on the Chenab River, calling it a "weaponisation of water" and a "flagrant violation" of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). She warned the move would further strain relations already tense after India suspended the IWT following a terror attack. The project, estimated to cost over Rs 3,200 crore, was cleared by India's Expert Appraisal Committee, which noted the Chenab basin waters are shared under the 1960 treaty.
