Ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, North Chennai residents, through the Federation of North Chennai Residents Welfare Association, have submitted a detailed petition to the State government and Greater Chennai Corporation. Their demands include bio-mining the 352-acre Kodungaiyur dumpsite, creating an ecological park and library on reclaimed land, extending Chennai Metro Rail to Ennore, constructing major flyovers and road expansions, and establishing new government healthcare facilities. They also propose decentralized waste management under the 'Green Chennai Initiative' and an ecological master plan for the Manali-Ennore-Thiruvottiyur industrial belt.
