In Karnataka's Kali Tiger Reserve, a relocation of 339 families for tiger conservation has raised concerns over systemic violations of the Forest Rights Act (FRA). The state government paid Rs 12.17 crore in compensation to 99 families identified as forest encroachers, whose FRA claims were pending or rejected. Reports indicate a lack of Gram Sabha consent, a mandatory prerequisite for relocation from protected areas under both the FRA and Wildlife Protection Act.
