West Bengal is advancing sustainable development through circular economy initiatives, renewable energy expansion, and water conservation programs, according to Amit Mitra, Principal Chief Advisor to the Chief Minister. Key efforts include excavating 800 km of creeks with mangrove plantations to support shrimp farming, benefiting women self-help groups and generating $500 million in shrimp exports. The state also promotes green transport with over 262,000 registered green vehicles and 805 charging stations, alongside nearly 3,763 MW of solar power projects nearing completion. Additional programs focus on land and water conservation to support agriculture and local communities.
