
Goa will establish its third district, named Kushavati after a local river, comprising four talukas from South Goa: Dharbandora, Quepem, Sanguem, and Canacona. Quepem town will serve as the district headquarters. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant highlighted the name's connection to Goa's ancient heritage and ecological importance, noting the presence of ancient rock engravings along the Kushavati river. The state aims to develop Kushavati as an aspirational district, seeking central funding for infrastructure, particularly for its 27% tribal population.
