During a three-day visit to Australia, Canadian official Mark Carney announced Australia's joining of the G7 Critical Minerals Alliance, a Canada-led initiative to diversify and secure global critical minerals supply. Together, Australia and Canada produce about a third of global lithium and uranium and over 40% of iron ore. Both countries have signed new agreements to enhance cooperation on critical minerals, with Australia investing in stockpiles of antimony and gallium. The visit also aims to strengthen ties between the two middle powers in areas including defence, trade, and artificial intelligence.
