India's road transport ministry is prioritizing barrier-free tolling and a new Road Safety Bill for 2026, aiming to reduce the annual 1.8 lakh road fatalities. Several major expressways, including the Delhi-Mumbai and Amritsar-Jamnagar highways, are slated for completion. The ministry plans to implement seamless tolling using technologies like ANPR and FASTag, projecting significant cost savings and reduced waiting times. The Zojila tunnel is also scheduled for inauguration, enhancing connectivity.
