The proposed 1,000 MW solar power project in Karbi Anglong, Assam, has been officially cancelled following the Asian Development Bank's withdrawal of funding amid objections from indigenous groups. The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has requested a detailed report on nearly 18,000 bighas of land allotted for the project, highlighting concerns over unresolved land rights and potential new ventures by APDCL and NLCIL. Local leaders express fears that such developments have historically failed to benefit the Karbi people and threaten their land and livelihoods.
