The Sri Lankan Navy arrested three fishermen from Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, and impounded their trawler, accusing them of poaching near the Neduntheevu islet. The fishermen were taken to the Karai Nagar Naval Port. This incident follows the recent arrest of 13 fishermen and the impounding of three trawlers from the region within 15 days. Fishermen associations are appealing to the Indian government for a high-level dialogue to find a permanent solution to prevent such arrests and the imposition of heavy fines.
