Maharashtra plans to convert its entire Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) fleet of 22,000 buses to electric vehicles by 2037, aiming to be the first state with a fully electric state-run bus network. Currently, about 800 buses are electric. The transition will be phased, with future fleet additions being electric and proposals to convert diesel buses to EVs. The state offers financial incentives, toll waivers on major highways, and is developing charging infrastructure powered partly by solar energy. This aligns with the national vision for full electric mobility by 2047.
