Islamist militants, believed to be linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), attacked two Nigerian army bases in Borno state's Gwoza district, killing at least 14 soldiers and a local imam. The assaults on Ngoshe and Pulka bases involved looting weapons and ammunition and reportedly abducting women. Injured troops were taken to Maiduguri for treatment. Despite ongoing military offensives, insurgents continue to exploit challenging terrain and weak state presence in the region, which remains the center of a long-running insurgency.
