The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has approved the formation of two new districts, Polavaram and Markapuram, increasing the state's total to 28. These changes, along with modifications in 17 other districts, were made based on public requests and in the interest of the people. The decision to shift the Annamayya district headquarters from Rayachoti to Madanapalle caused emotional reactions among ministers, with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasizing the necessity for administrative and public interest reasons. The new districts will be effective from December 31, 2025.
