Punjab has conducted its first mining site auctions in three years, generating Rs 11.61 crore from 29 sites through a new online bidding process. These reforms aim to increase transparency, curb illegal mining, and boost state revenue. The government plans to auction approximately 100 more sites in phases, moving away from previous volume-based systems that led to revenue loss and delays. The new competitive price bidding approach is expected to improve allocation and financial outcomes.
