The Congress party faced criticism after its tally dropped from 31 to 24 seats in the 227-member Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections. Former Mumbai Congress president and MLC Bhai Jagtap publicly demanded the resignation of Mumbai Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad, citing leadership failures and flawed candidate selection.
