The Delhi High Court has appointed a wife as the legal guardian of her husband, who has been in a comatose, vegetative state since February 2025 after an intracranial haemorrhage. The court invoked its 'parens patriae' jurisdiction, citing a legal vacuum in existing laws for such cases. The guardianship allows the wife to manage his medical care, finances, and assets to ensure his welfare. The couple's two children have no objection to the appointment.
