Judge Proposes Student Visa After College Student Deported to Honduras Despite Court Order

Any Lucia Lopez Belloza, a 19-year-old Babson College student brought to the U.S. from Honduras as a child, was arrested on November 20 based on a removal order she was unaware of. Despite a federal judge's November 21 order barring her deportation or transfer for 72 hours, she was flown to Texas and then deported to Honduras on November 22. The government acknowledged this violated the court order due to an ICE officer's mistake and apologized. The judge suggested issuing Lopez Belloza a student visa to allow her to return and continue her studies, while her lawyer urged enforcement of the rule of law and her return.
