The Supreme Court disposed of the four-decade-old Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by environmental lawyer M.C. Mehta in 1985, which addressed air pollution in Delhi and surrounding areas. The PIL led to significant judgments aimed at controlling pollution levels. Mehta, born in 1946 in Jammu and Kashmir, has been a prominent advocate for environmental conservation, including issues related to air and water pollution and heritage protection. The court acknowledged prior directions and formally concluded the proceedings on March 12.
