Centre Approves Construction of 5,000 Houses for Displaced Persons in Manipur

Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved the construction of 5,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) for internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by ethnic violence in Manipur. The approval followed a proposal by the Manipur government and a meeting between Chouhan and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. The project targets FY2025-26, with beneficiary identification guided by PMAY-G rules and data collected via the Awaas 2024 survey. The state aims to resettle displaced families amid ongoing efforts to restore peace.
