IIT Guwahati has recommended strict adherence to depth limits identified by the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) during the Rs 500-crore Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor Project construction to protect critical groundwater pathways. The NIH report, reviewed by IITG, found interconnected fractures at varying depths near Maa Kamakhya, Chinnamasta, and Siddheshwar Temples. Foundations should not exceed specified depths—1.9 m to 6.4 m depending on location—to avoid disrupting subsurface water flow, ensuring environmental safeguards during the project.
