The Lokpal, India's anti-corruption watchdog, has cancelled its controversial plan to purchase seven luxury BMW 3 Series 330Li cars, estimated to cost around Rs 5 crore. The decision followed widespread criticism from opposition parties and civil society groups who accused the institution of extravagance. The tender, initially floated in October 2025, was withdrawn via a resolution by the Lokpal's full bench and a corrigendum issued in December 2025. Critics, including Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, had dubbed the Lokpal "Shauq Pal," while others suggested opting for Indian-made electric vehicles.
