The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed District Magistrates (DMs) and District Electoral Officers (DEOs) in West Bengal to verify the authenticity of supporting identity documents submitted by voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. A new app will be used for this two-level checking process, with DMs/DEOs responsible for final verification. Only 13 specified identity documents are to be accepted, with prior ECI approval needed for exceptions.
