The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the continuation of the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) until the financial year 2030-31. The scheme provides guaranteed monthly pensions ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 to low-income and unorganised sector workers from age 60, based on contributions. Over 8.66 crore subscribers have enrolled as of January 2026. The government will extend funding for promotional activities, awareness campaigns, capacity building, and gap funding to ensure the scheme's sustainability and expand outreach, supporting India's goal of a pensioned society by 2047.
