The State Election Commission (SEC) is increasing vigilance to prevent voter influence during New Year and Makar Sankranti festivities ahead of municipal corporation polls. The SEC has directed excise and health departments to monitor bulk bookings in hotels and party halls, warning of strict action against model code of conduct violations. Special attention is being paid to Makar Sankranti, with concerns that traditional gift-giving or organized events could be used to sway voters. Campaigning will cease on January 13, with large gatherings prohibited until polling concludes.
