Karnataka Proposes Ropeway at Mullayyanagiri Amid Environmental Concerns

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposed a ropeway connecting Mullayyanagiri, Seethalayyanagiri, and Kaimara in Chikkamagaluru to boost tourism, as announced in the March 6 state budget. The project, planned as a public-private partnership, was previously considered under the BJP administration but did not progress beyond preliminary surveys. Environmentalists have opposed the plan, citing concerns about potential harm to the fragile Western Ghats ecosystem and wildlife. Officials note that a feasibility study is needed before further steps.
