Security forces, including Para Special Forces and Assam Rifles, conducted a large-scale anti-insurgency operation on January 16 in the forested Henglep area of Manipur's Churachandpur district. The operation targeted suspected camps of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), a militant group not party to the Suspension of Operations agreement. Helicopters were used to deploy troops into remote jungle terrain. The operation aims to curb militant activity amid ongoing ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kukis since May 2023, which has caused over 260 deaths and displaced thousands.
