Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari urged the Delhi government to withdraw the Environment Compensation Charge (ECC), a green tax on commercial and older petrol vehicles, citing its financial burden and questioning the use of collected funds for pollution control. He proposed replacing the levy with an annual grant of Rs 700-900 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Gadkari's ministry has also sought legal intervention to reconsider the Supreme Court's original order that mandated the tax to curb air pollution in Delhi.
