Maharashtra Transport Unions Announce Statewide Strike Over E-Challan and Taxation Issues

Transport unions across Maharashtra, led by the Maharashtra Transporters Action Committee (M-TAC), have announced a statewide strike starting March 5, protesting the e-challan system, high taxes, toll charges, and regulatory issues. The strike, involving school buses, taxis, trucks, tempos, and autorickshaws, follows failed talks with the government. Unions demand reforms including rollback of new e-challan rules requiring upfront fine payments, cancellation of pending fines, and improved infrastructure. The government, while urging dialogue and warning of disruptions, has offered limited assurances. Mumbai's taxi and autorickshaw union has opted out of the strike.
