Cambodia's government approved a draft law targeting cyberscam operations, aiming to impose strict penalties on fraudsters involved in transnational scams. The law, endorsed during a cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, proposes prison terms ranging from five years to life imprisonment depending on the severity of crimes, including human trafficking and deaths linked to scams. The draft will be sent to parliament, where it is expected to pass easily, as Cambodia seeks to eliminate online scams and counter its reputation as a hub for cybercrime.
