The Congress party announced a nationwide 'MGNREGA Bachao Abhiyan' starting January 5 to protest the government's replacement of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) with the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act. Party leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, criticized the move as a unilateral attack on states, the poor, and the constitutional right to work, alleging a lack of consultation. They vowed to fight the new law democratically, warning of public anger against the government.
