Kolkata Airport Authorities Plan Relocation of Bankra Mosque to Meet Safety Norms
The West Bengal government, in coordination with the Centre and Airports Authority of India, has agreed to relocate the 136-year-old Bankra Mosque situated within the operational area of Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The mosque's proximity to the secondary runway violates international aviation safety norms, limiting infrastructure upgrades and operational capacity. The relocation is part of a broader redevelopment plan, including demolishing the old terminal, to expand the airport's capacity to 40 million passengers and enhance flight operations.
