BMC Prepares Record Rs 80,000 Crore Budget Amid Unspent Funds and Infrastructure Focus

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to present its 2026-27 budget, expected to exceed Rs 80,000 crore, marking a record high driven by increased property tax revenues without new taxes. Key priorities include major infrastructure projects like the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, Coastal Road extension, and Gargai Dam. However, over 50% of the previous year's capital budget remains unspent due to administrative delays, tendering issues, and manpower shortages, affecting projects across roads, environment, and health sectors. The budget will reflect the priorities of the newly elected corporators after a four-year gap.
