
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) unveiled its 2026-27 budget totaling approximately Rs 80,952 crore, marking an 8.7% increase from the previous year. The budget emphasizes infrastructure development with Rs 48,164 crore allocated for capital expenditure, focusing on projects like the Coastal Road (North), Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, and sewage treatment upgrades. Education received a significant boost with Rs 4,248 crore earmarked, including plans for AI labs and new CBSE schools. The health sector budget rose to Rs 7,456 crore, targeting hospital expansions and advanced medical equipment. Despite progress on several projects, some initiatives from last year remain stalled or scaled down. Revenue growth is expected from property tax, development fees, and octroi compensation, supporting the civic body's ambitious spending plans.
