BMC Proposes Rs 80,952 Crore Budget for 2026-27 Focusing on Infrastructure and Education

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed its 2026-27 budget at Rs 80,952.56 crore, marking an 8.77% increase from the previous year. Capital expenditure is set at Rs 48,164 crore, focusing on infrastructure projects like the Coastal Road, Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, sewage treatment plants, and road concretisation. The education budget rises to Rs 4,248 crore, with plans for AI labs and new CBSE schools. Health sector funding increases to Rs 7,456 crore, supporting hospital expansions and advanced equipment. Revenue sources include octroi compensation, property tax, and development fees. Some projects from last year remain stalled or scaled down, while the budget emphasizes sustainable infrastructure and climate action.
