The Election Commission of India has transferred five District Election Officers (DEOs) in Assam ahead of the April 9 assembly elections, replacing Assam Civil Service officials with Indian Administrative Service officers from batches between 2014 and 2021. The DEOs of Kokrajhar, Majuli, Baksa, Chirang, and Udalguri were reassigned due to concerns over performance. Additionally, Senior Superintendents of Police in several districts were also transferred. The Commission directed immediate implementation and compliance reporting by March 17, with transferred officers barred from election duties until polls conclude.
