Finland plans to lift its longstanding ban on hosting nuclear weapons to align with NATO's deterrence policy after joining the alliance in 2023. Defence Minister Antti Hakkanen stated the change would allow nuclear arms on Finnish soil solely for military defense purposes. The proposal, supported by the right-wing coalition, requires parliamentary approval and amendments to existing laws. This shift follows security concerns stemming from Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine and Finland's recent defense pact with the US.
