Senior CPI(M) Leader T.K. Govindan Quits Party to Contest as Independent in Kannur

T.K. Govindan, a senior CPI(M) leader and Kannur district secretariat member, has ended his nearly six-decade association with the party in protest against the nomination of P.K. Shyamala as the Taliparamba candidate. Govindan criticized the selection process as violating party ethics and organizational norms, alleging favoritism toward Shyamala, wife of party state secretary M.V. Govindan. He announced plans to contest the upcoming election as an independent, rejecting support from communal groups but open to backing from the opposition UDF.
