Gujarat Committee Submits Uniform Civil Code Report Proposing Common Legal Framework

A five-member expert committee in Gujarat, chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, submitted its report and draft Uniform Civil Code (UCC) law to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The draft, similar to Uttarakhand's UCC law, proposes a common legal framework for all religions on marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption, emphasizing gender equality and women's protection. The Gujarat government plans to table the draft bill during the ongoing Budget session, aiming to implement UCC while considering the state's cultural diversity and public consultations.
