Maharashtra Plans to Plant 300 Crore Trees to Boost Forest Cover to 33%

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced plans to plant 300 crore trees to increase the state's forest cover to 33%, up from the current 16.5% as per the 2025-26 Economic Survey. Speaking at the 2nd International Arboriculture Conference, he highlighted the use of advanced technology and scientific data for tree plantation, involving arboriculturists and startups. The government also emphasized mangrove protection, requiring Bombay High Court permission for cutting, with compensatory mangrove parks created for cleared areas.
