
The Union Home Ministry has established two additional empowered committees to expedite processing of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) applications in West Bengal, joining two existing panels. These committees, led by senior central government officials and including state and postal representatives, aim to address the backlog amid the upcoming state elections. The move follows the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, with concerns raised about delays and political influences affecting application clearances, particularly among communities like the Matua.
