Delhi Deploys Finnish Amphibious Dredger to Clean Najafgarh Drain Affecting Yamuna Pollution

Delhi has deployed a Finnish-made Watermaster Amphibious Multipurpose Dredger and three hopper barges to clean the Najafgarh drain, which contributes nearly 70% of pollution to the Yamuna River. The dredger, costing over Rs 8 crore, can operate on land and in water up to six meters deep, removing silt, sludge, floating waste, and aquatic weeds. Officials, including Irrigation Minister Parvesh Verma, emphasized this technology-driven effort aims for sustained cleaning, with plans to deploy more such machines if successful.
