Israel announced it killed Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of Iran's Basij paramilitary force, in a precision strike in Tehran on Monday. The Basij, under Iran's Revolutionary Guards, is known for suppressing internal protests with force. Iran has not confirmed Soleimani's death. Israeli Defence Minister also claimed the killing of Iran's national security chief Ali Larijani, which Tehran has not acknowledged. Soleimani was sanctioned by the US, EU, and others for his role in repressing dissent.
