The Calcutta High Court, led by Justice Amrita Sinha, expressed frustration over the West Bengal government's failure to remove over 500 illegal constructions in the ecologically sensitive East Kolkata Wetlands. Despite multiple court orders and reports, ground-level demolition and restoration work remain unfulfilled. The East Kolkata Wetlands Management Authority cited lack of cooperation from Kolkata Municipal Corporation and district officials. The court is considering deploying paramilitary forces to enforce demolition and restore the wetlands, with a further hearing scheduled for March 16.
