Sri Lanka has opened its first India-funded Bailey bridge, a 100-foot structure built by the Indian Army to restore a vital road link between its Central and Uva Provinces. Inaugurated by Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha and Sri Lankan Deputy Ministers, the bridge is part of a USD 450 million Indian reconstruction package following Cyclone Ditwah, which caused over 600 deaths. India's assistance also includes grants and concessional loans, and extends to reconstructing a cyclone-damaged railway line.
