The BJP has named V.V. Rajesh as its candidate for the Thiruvananthapuram Mayor post following the party's historic win in the Corporation elections, ending 45 years of Left rule. Asha Nath will be the Deputy Mayor candidate. Rajesh, a two-term councilor and former district president, was chosen after internal discussions, with some opposition to an earlier consideration of retired DGP R. Sreelekha. The BJP secured 50 seats in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
