Microsoft's Project Silica has developed a data storage method using ultra-fast femtosecond lasers to write 3D structures inside glass, potentially preserving information for up to 10,000 years. This technology addresses the limitations of traditional storage devices, which degrade over time, by offering a durable alternative. Successfully tested, it aims to meet growing demands for long-term digital storage amid increasing data production and AI requirements.
