A Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) study published in Nature found high levels of antibiotic-resistant staphylococci bacteria in Delhi's indoor and outdoor air, particularly during winter. Researchers collected air samples and identified that 73% of isolates were single-drug resistant and 36% were multi-drug resistant. Staphylococci bacteria can cause various infections, from minor skin issues to severe illnesses like pneumonia and sepsis. The study suggests this airborne bacteria load may contribute to increased vulnerability to respiratory infections during colder months.
