Breast cancer cases in India have more than doubled from 13 to 29.4 per 100,000 women between 1990 and 2023, making it the most common cancer among Indian women. Mortality rates have also risen significantly. Experts attribute this increase to lifestyle changes, reproductive patterns, and limited screening, with only 1.3% of women over 45 undergoing mammography. Challenges include gaps in treatment access and awareness, especially in rural areas, prompting calls for expanded screening, awareness campaigns, and improved healthcare infrastructure.
