Green Forum Urges Uniform Pollution Controls at Kolkata's Rabindra Sarovar During Holi

A green activist group, the Save Rabindra Sarobar Forum, has urged the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) to uniformly enforce gate restrictions at Rabindra Sarovar lake during the Doljatra festival on March 3 and Holi celebrations on March 4, 2026. The Forum expressed concern over potential pollution from colour celebrations, including events by clubs within the lake compound, and called for equal application of guidelines to protect the ecologically sensitive lake, often called the 'lungs of South Kolkata.' KMDA acknowledged the concerns and stated that measures are taken annually to prevent pollution.
