India Reports Progress on Biodiversity Governance and Benefit-Sharing Under Nagoya Protocol

India has established over 2.76 lakh Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) to enhance community participation in biodiversity governance and benefit-sharing under the Nagoya Protocol. Covering 2017 to 2025, the first National Report highlights India's leadership with 12,830 Access and Benefit Sharing approvals and over 3,500 Internationally Recognised Certificates of Compliance, representing 60% of the global total. The framework operates under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, supported by recent regulations and contributes to the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.
