Mass nesting of Olive Ridley turtles has begun at Odisha's Rushikulya river mouth, with over 10,000 females laying eggs along a 2.5-km beach. Authorities have imposed a temporary lockdown and restricted tourist access to protect the endangered species, deploying security and fencing to prevent predators. Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, conservation efforts safeguard more than 200,000 turtle eggs across 51 hatcheries, supporting hatchlings as they journey to the sea. Both states emphasize protection during the critical nesting season from February to April.
